Student Reporting: IRIP - Individual Reading Intervention Plans

Several states require young students to demonstrate reading proficiency by the end of grade 3. The Munetrix IRIPs tool helps districts document interventions taken with students in grades K-3 who are not proficient in reading.

Individual Reading Intervention Plans and Reading Laws

Over 30 states across the nation have passed third grade reading laws.  These laws require students to read at or above proficiency level by the end of third grade.   The titles of these laws vary from state to state, such as the Read by Grade 3 Law in Michigan or the Third Grade Reading Guarantee in Ohio.  Also, some states have added provisions to retain students who do not demonstrate reading proficiency by the end of third grade, while others have provisions for promotion with additional supports or intervention requirements.  Several states have laws that require schools to implement reading intervention plans for struggling students receiving interventions or support in grades K-3.  These reading intervention plans have different names in different states, such as: IRIP, IRP, IMP, etc.  They are used to track the reading interventions and supports used with struggling students in grades K-3, as well as progress made.  In many districts, reading intervention plans are maintained in the form of a Google document, handwritten forms, spreadsheets, or other manual document formats.

The Munetrix Academic Achievement Module provides users with access to an Individual Reading Intervention Plan (IRIP) tool in the Student Reporting application.  The IRIP tool empowers users to generate an IRIP for a student and has several helpful features, such as:

  • The Munetrix IRIP tool automatically populates the student's basic information and assessment scores in the IRIP document.  This saves teachers and interventionists hours of compiling data across several different platforms into one document for each student.
  • Once generated, the IRIP form automatically updates with new assessment data after each benchmark assessment term.
  • The IRIP contains open ended fields which allow flexibility to meet individual district needs.
  • The same IRIP form can be used for a student throughout the entire school year or new IRIPs can be generated for each student, each term.
  • Links to other documents on the student, such as behavior plans, IEPs, or even parent resources can be embedded in the IRIP.
  • Other key documents such as behavior plans, IEPs, etc. can be uploaded as a file and attached to the IRIP.
  • The IRIP allows for documenting basic notification tracking with parents.
  • IRIPs are retained in the Munetrix system in perpetuity so that teachers and interventionists will have access to historic student IRIP information year-after-year.  IRIPs may also be printed for storage in student files or to share with parents.
